Virgin Atlantic Upper Class

After more than £100m of investment a new Upper Class seat will be unveiled in the next few weeks and then rolled out across the fleet over three years. The details are, at the time of writing, still under wraps but we’re expecting something spectacular considering how good the current seat is.

At the moment it is a pleasantly social experience, thanks largely to the bar, with an incredibly private refuge if you don’t feel like chatting.

Virgin Upper has always managed to feel special but without the top hat and tails manner that so often plagues exclusive areas.

Rather than being intimidated and meek one can imagine a honeymoon couple who’ve never flown anywhere but economy before being comfortable with their new surroundings in about 30 seconds.

The seat manages snug and roomy at once. Somehow it’s an exciting little cubbyhole evoking memories of building a den from sheets and cushions as a child. Only this den is approximately a million times better.

It has some serious technology and pleasant people who bring you lovely things like bacon sandwiches. It’s fun, but functional, pleasing aesthetically and still practical. And the duvet is wonderful.

For those on a holiday of a lifetime this treat is one worth stretching the bank for.

To Antigua Upper goes three times a week on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from London Gatwick from £2,349 per person.
